We had a ten hour drive today, so I had a lot of free time in the van. Here are two micromixes and a new Atlas Sound EP....
1. Susumu Yokota - Daremoshiranai Chiisanakuni (From Image: 1983-1998) 2. Auetechre - Rettic AC (From Chiastic Slide) 3. My Bloody Valentine - All I Need (From "Isn't Anything") 4. Hugh LeCaine - Paulution Charnel Number Five (From "Compositions and Demonstrations" One time Lockett and I ate an eighth of mushrooms and decided to drive to find a church in Alabama that would heal us. As we were driving through the countryside at sunrise, this played on the weakening fm bands of our beloved WREK's overnight freeform programming and blew our minds. We were about 18) 11. Casino Versus Japan - Untitled (From a CD accompanying an issue of YETI magazine. The CD had bands paying tribute to Raymond Scott, This song will always remind me of driving around the suburbs where I grew up at night, delivering chinese food and longing for somebody. I think its a really sweet lullaby-like song)

Recorded today during a 10 hour drive from Austria to Switzerland, through the Swiss Alps. These are reinterpretations of a few of my favorite doo-wop songs filtered through a thick gauze of motion-sickness and boredom...
1. come softly (originally performed by the Fleetwoods) 2. you're so fine (originally performed by the Falcons) 3. you belong to me (originally performed by the Duprees)
we are RIGHT NOW in graz, austria at the elate festival. the festival is held in a damn tunnel, its awesome. this tunnel was built by pows in ww2 to house the austrians when they were getting bombed...basically we are playing tonight in a converted bomb shelter at a really progressive festival. they have their own beverages!! heres the site--we play around 6-7 pm american time. well give a shout out to the usa! xoxox mmmmmk byyyye
We arrived in Europe and were taken to a comfortable six-bed hostel in a really pretty old building. It is cold as crap here. I'm lucky I brought my second hand North Face jacket which turns my body into a furnace... We slept away most of the day. Lockett and I roamed the streets for a minute and then he went to an Irish Pub where he alledges to have met an assasin who gave him a "bullet."
I stayed in and made a song to document the mood I felt on the coblestone streets of this place.
All of the boys are out playing roulette and non-stops.
Above: Bob Weston @ Chicago Mastering hard at work on "Let the Blind Lead Those Who Can See But Cannot Feel"
I left Chicago this morning. Now I'm relaxing in Harlem. I spent all yesterday mastering the Atlas Sound record. It sounds really good. I'm really proud. During my visit to Chicago I got to see a lot of friends and go out a little but mainly I stayed in and Brian showed me how to use plug-ins. Holy shit. Mastering is a lot more fun than I thought. With my new knoweldge and VST plug-ins I decided to revisit some songs I've previously posted here and give them better mixes. There's also a couple of new old ones I'm throwing up here for kicks. I am really in love with this particular plug-in called a "vintage warmer" i made bob put it all over the atlas sound record...
I Cleaned up my cover of Mark Sultan's excellent "Unicorn Rainbow Odyssey" by getting rid of some of the reverb i've been abusing and stripping it down a lot. I like this version better Unicorn Rainbow Odyssey (Mark Sultan Cover).MP3 Here is a new instrumental, not really new. It was recorded in a hotel room in headphones last spring. Its really just a jam, not much to it... Remembered By.MP3 Another new old song. This was a new-wave type song that I messed around with when I was writing the "Let the Blind..." album. It's a really rough demo... Words from the Wall.mp3 Finally, I removed a lot of the reverb and atmospherics from the "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" cover. You can hear a lot more mistakes now but I think it sounds even sadder stripped down. I wanted to dedicate this one to Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge. (R.I.P.) Only Love Can Break Your Heart (Version 2).MP3
For those of you who didn't know:
Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and her reactivated Psychic TV aka PTV3 are terribly sad to announce the cancellation of their November North American tour dates. This decision is entirely due to the unexpected passing of band member Lady Jaye Breyer P-Orridge.
Lady Jaye died suddenly on Tuesday 9th October 2007 at home in Brooklyn, New York from a previously undiagnosed heart condition which is thought to have been connected with her long-term battle with stomach cancer. Lady Jaye collapsed and died in the arms of her heartbroken "other half" Genesis Breyer P-Orridge.
Being overwhelmed by the enormity of their loss, Genesis and the other surviving band members of Psychic TV/PTV3 are not able to properly meet the demands of touring and performance. Obviously, her absence onstage , the conspicuous loss of her unique charisma, music and humour would be an unbearable emotional reality to confront night after night.
The group, who have been touring to promote their first studio album in 12 years, will announce future plans after an appropriate period of mourning.
i was going to post this after brad's sunday night in chicago, but the internet has been down for hours. this song is for brad in chicago and aaron popelka who i met in newport kentucky at our last show from the previous trip.
DIFFERENCE BT WORDS: (approximated) "The difference between an animal and me its not easy to see its a difficult thing unless hidden among weeds its not difficult to see we both can expierence jealousy they can't remember what they see"
redownload it again if you already grabbed it. this is the final mix. some elements were missing from the last mp3. this is a loney tune about the differences (the ability to retain memories) and similarities (the ability to feel jealousy) between humans and animals. It's far out but it has a sad vibe i think. hope you guys like it. i've had fun in chicago. tomorrow i master the final mixes for the atlas sound record at chicago audio with bob weston. then i go Hto new york. its been a weird week being away from home and my best friend (for the first time in a long while) and i'm out of it. i'd love to be in my room playing videogames with him. i miss my bed. hope everyone is having a good fall so far. oh yeah, the image above is of a humanzee named oliver. lockett told me about him. he was supposed to be a cross between a human and chimpanzee. he supposedly liked to smoke cigars.
one last thing: if the last.fm user named: HeadofState visits here. please contact me via myspace (myspace.com/bradfordcox), i want to ask you a weird question.
we have a big tour ahead of us, help us make it more fun!
one of the best things about the ponys/deerhunter tour we did in the spring was the jokes that we were swapping. man, those ponys, theyre funny.
please come find me at any deerhunter show posted below, we will have special prizes for good jokes, seriously. if you can teach me a joke in the language of the country we are in, then its even better! im also into really filfthy, poor taste, borderline-make-you uncomfortable jokes. (we all kinda are. especially josh and moses)
